I. The Season's Change
"Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him." Daniel 2:20-22
The spring rains wash away the crust Left from the winter's stay As the sun shines down from up above To grace the fruitless place
For in this time the Sower toils To till the hardened earth For to break up all the follow ground His seed to sow to birth
The Bible tells us that it is God Who directs His children's way Yet like the ground we must be plowed To break us soft to pray
For the Sower does not begin a work To forsake the season's course But He breaks the ground with the plow And in some lives it takes painful force
Yet growth will come throughout the summer Watered by God's Word And His face will shine once again As we yield to the lessons learned
And though storms my rise and sweep the field Our course has thus been set Harvest shall come before the cold Our hearts to resurrect. © 1998 Raymond Bolton Pena
"Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you." Hosea 10:12

II. Why Not I?
"For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him." Deuteronomy 32:9-12
Caterpillars become butterflies We behold their beauty in the skies
Yet what about such a worm as I? Who knows the pain of a heart that's died?
Why should I live in such a wretched state of soul? When I can fly above all the filth below?
Like an eagle soaring in the heights When its wings are spread in glorious flight
It's in falling that young eagles learn to fly And it is through death that God resurrects new life
For as an eagle drops her young in flight Though they fall they're ever in her sight
Then catching them so gently she brings them home thus safe And that's how God's children learn to ascend above their trials by faith
For God's ways are higher then we can know Thus we must trust his wisdom without letting bitterness grow
So when Satan kills your promise by this world's circumstantial lies Remember that He who gave it is the Resurrection and the Life. © 1999 Raymond Bolton Pena
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13

III. It Came as a Stranger
"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy." 1st Peter 4:12-13
It came as a stranger out of the blue Like a Dove descending so faithful and true
Its wings were as gold as it soared through the air And I touched of its life beyond my despair
It lifted me high beyond all that was low So majestic in glory my life seemed to glow
But then it turned and descended beneath the cold hardened earth And it plunged me to depths like a death after birth
For broken dreams I had known and pain I had faced But this miracle that died was so glorious and great
The terror that ensued was so horribly real Such betrayal I felt as my dreams were all killed
For the darkness that descended seemed to smother all light As the oppression of fear flooded in with such fright
Yet miracles don't die though mysteriously they live And once the Son He arose new life did He give
For that Dove was the Spirit of God up above And in wisdom and power He displayed His great love
His light shined out of darkness and behold I still stand Now stronger in His power upheld by His hand
Because though it came as a stranger it was really a friend Who saved me from myself and holds my times in His hands
Thus my dreams that were crushed beneath earth's hard, cold, barren soil Can now spring forth in abundance without my own strife and hard toil
For I have now been purged of going off my own way And upon God I now lean to make Him my guide and my stay
Thus all my sufferings I've shared have abounded unto God's glory And though now blessed and beloved it's not yet half of the story. © 1999 Raymond Bolton Pena
"Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." 1st Peter 4:16-19
"For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:" Hebrews 12:6-14

IV. Sifted and Purged
"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar." Psalms 51:1-19
O God in heaven hear my cries For I've faced my fears and almost died
The ways been hard and oh so long And that wicked one seeks to steal my song
I have faced the fiery trial that burned And though through hell I’ve walked - I still need purged
Sifted as wheat to face myself The chaff to burn - to enhance my spiritual worth
Yet now I’m so empty - poured out and dry I so thirst for Thee so please hear my cry
Let Thy grace - be my drink to heal These inner cries as I plead and knell
Let Thy strength be released - into my soul Heal this broken heart and make me whole
Answer my prayer as I know Thou wilt By Thy might and power no longer my will
O God above - my desire is now Yours Thus cleanse all others - please thoroughly purge
So that I might stand - upheld alone by Thee From all that is of the flesh please set me free. © 1999 Raymond Bolton Pena
"O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die; And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord. So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations." Psalms 79:8-13

V. The Wilderness of Humiliation and Shame
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water." Isaiah 41:10-18
Through the wilderness of humiliation and shame Where the contradictions of sinners inflict such pain
Where spiritual apathy and indifference seek to set in Where temptations from hell inspire such pressures to sin
Where oppressions of darkness seem to smoother all light Where vexations and torments flood in with such fright
Where your vision and dream seems to have all but died Where your zeal to reach souls slowly subsides
Where you seem to stand still as time marches on Where your once burning call seems to be gone
Where there is no standing and you fear you shall fall Where the satanic forces of hell become so naked and raw
Where Satan claims he has you and you know not what to do Where if you don't hear from God you just can't make it through
Fear not for God is with you Do not be dismayed It is He who strengthens your heart as you kneel and pray
For God will surely help you yes even you He shall uphold With the Right hand of His Righteousness to face the battle bold
Thus endure the contradictions of sinners and repent of the sins in your life And if you fall in the battle just get right back up again and fight
Fear not the attack of the enemy or his condemnation against your life For you can strike the enemy right back by not giving in unto his lies
Your vision was given to you by God and your dream will come true in His time Thus stir up your calling and gifts and your lethargy will subside
Stand having done all for His grace is yours to stand No matter what Satan's kingdom can do you are upheld in God's right hand. © 1994 Raymond Bolton Pena
"The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God. Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes. And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away." Isaiah 35:1-10

VI. His Utmost for Our Lowest
"Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them." Psalms 103:1-18
Like a candle that burns and melts its wax Our hearts they sometimes melt when under attack
Yet like a potter's vessel on a wheel We are thus transformed though such pain we feel
For when the fiery trials burn and rage Like a fiery furnace - think it not strange
For it is a test to pass or fail Thus it is ours to stand - no matter come what will
Even when facing attacks that make us stumble and fall God still works to our good - everything and all
For as wax that melts beneath the candle's flame It sometimes falls and is thus then changed
Just like the clay upon the wheel It is sometimes marred and can not yield
Yet nothing takes God off guard or by great surprise For He knows our frame and He holds our lives
He saves His own unto the uttermost By grace through faith not of works to boast
Therefore when Satan comes to steal and kill So that he might destroy our spirit's will
You shall not die but live in the midst of it all Yet you must listen closely to God's still voice so small
For even when we've failed still we're not through Because there is grace in place for such a one as you
For though Jesus never sinned as He walked this earth He too fell beneath the weight of His Cross so bruised and hurt
In all points He was tempted just like as we Yet without sin He endured and became our High Priest
Therefore let us come boldly to His throne of grace To obtain His love and mercy no matter what the case
To find help and grace in our time of need Because He ever lives to intercede
For through His death on the Cross and His Blood thus shed He shall resurrect our hearts from deepest spiritual death
So that we might arise on the wings of His own heart's love To be wiser than serpents yet as gentle as doves. © 2000 Raymond Bolton Pena
"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:14-16

VII. I Shall Not Die
"The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward." Matthew 10:24-42
Sometimes it is so hard to care When sufferings in life we have to share
To comprehend what's going on When the enemy seeks to steal our song
At times I can't seem to understand What is expected - should I run or stand?
A house divided shall surely fall My soul is torn - what is my call?
Because sometimes I feel like I can't take no more And the pain within - it seems to pour
What must I do? - "I Must Carry On" Yet could it be that I am wrong?
For I do not know how I am to stand When oppressed by such circumstances and no longer can
Because at times I fear I've lost my way By some strange fate for my mistakes
Yet I cling to the hope that all shall be well Because I know that my God has never yet failed
And as I recount His goodness my faith revives And I know I shall live for Jesus Christ is alive
For His mercy endures and His right hand upholds Thus once again I shall stand faithful, fearless and bold © 1995 Raymond Bolton Pena
"Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living." Psalms 116-7-9
"The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD." Psalms 118:16-19

VIII. LIVE
"And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the loathing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born. And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live." Ezekiel 16:4-6
When I looked into the glass I seen reflections of the past In the pain that was etched within my face And though I turned and tried to run From all the things that I'd done wrong I knew I would find my way back to this place
Then Satan screamed: FADE AWAY Back into the shell from which you have emerged FADE AWAY Give it not a second thought now you know you must return FADE AWAY For you know that there is nothing left and all else has but failed FADE AWAY You know that you can't win this battle against the gates of hell
Then I turned my eyes up to the skies As I lifted my voice to be heard on high And God's still small voice came unto me My God taught me how to stand Before His presence and command And His glory I now see
Then the SPIRIT breathed: LIVE I SAY Come forth and rise victorious over every grave LIVE I SAY Fear Not for I am with thee every night and day LIVE I SAY Fret not for I am your protector and you know I've never failed LIVE I SAY For the time is coming and now is: To lay waste the Gates of Hell. © 1990 Raymond Bolton Pena
"O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever. Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever. Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever. I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD." Psalms 118:1-17

IX. In My Darkest
"Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me." Micah 7:8
In my darkest night In my darkest hour Grace hath shined In strength and power
For the Spirit's comfort In peace I now possess Through the Father's Love In Jesus Christ my rest
Thus as a light that shines In the dark of night Jesus lights thy way By His Spirit's might
Because in my darkest night He has been faithful and true And in my darkest hour He brought me all the way through
For in my darkest night He has been a shelter for me Thus in my darkest hour Without Him where would I be? © 1991 Raymond Bolton Pena
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12

X. The Season’s Sing
"...Blessed be the name of God for ever and To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace....He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:.." Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,11
Autumn leaves fall to the ground The winter snow drifts all around
Then comes the spring with its shower rains For the summer days to rejoice and sing
Seasons come and seasons go To change our hearts and to touch our souls
The season's signs and days declare The mystery of Life we hold and share
Like darkest night before the dawn Death it comes to steal our song
Unfulfilled dreams and visions fade Like broken promises that were made
Broken wings bring sorrow's birth Upon the cold hard barren earth
Faith Hope and Love they seem to die Thus bitter tears in pain we cry
Yet beyond the hidden unseen veil Resurrection Life sets sail
And on the wings of God's Spirit grace is borne to fly So high above the storm's darkest skies
Then cascading down upon our souls Faith Hope and Love again they grow
Like a seed that's sown in the earth to die In time transforms into a brand new life
Thus comes the rising of the Son As the horns of His morning glow the dawn
Then dreams and visions find their way To fulfill the promises that God made
As the bitter tears in pain we cried Return as living streams of life
For broken wings take time to heal Yet season's change as season's will
Thus upon the Word of God you'll soar So much stronger than before
So when broken wings need time to mend You must believe that you will soar again
For though broken wings cause agonies sting It's upon broken wings that the Seasons Sing. © 1998 Raymond Pena
"...Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him." Daniel 2:20-22
