Cruel Addiction

“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lust thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall have no dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart, that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.” Romans 6:11-18

Sometimes I hear faint echoes
of yesteryears most recent past
And as I reflect upon the memories
the pain of death I seem to grasp

Have you ever done a line of Coke
tell me now have you my friend?
Have you ever smoked a rock of crack?
do you know the pain of sin?

Have you ever stood in an alley?
under a dark and cold cruel sky?
And as you took each passing breath
you just wished that you could die?

Then looking out into the streets
surrounded by brick walls
Have you ever heard the silence scream so deep?
you could actually feel the torment of your fall?

Alienation and Isolation
Despair and Agony!
Do you know what wretchedness really is
or have you ever seen?

To be stained so deep by Sin within
still yet God heard my silent cries
I was too afraid to pray so I just groaned
so deep, deep down inside

I know what it is to be defiled by Satan
I know what it is to fall
As deep as Hell's bottomless depths descend
yet God still heard my call

Touched by Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost
My soul my God has healed
My stains of sin have been cleansed
and now the Life of God again I feel

Thus sinner, backslider tossed in the tempest
of a cruel addiction's merciless hold
Do not lose heart to despair suicidal
for there is forgiveness for you and yet hope

Thou who art suffering in the grip of cruel bondage
in this season of your darkest night
Just plead the blood of this One called Jesus
and be turned from the power of darkness to light

Just turn your eyes and heart toward the Savior
Behold the Lamb of God
For He who died for your sins is faithful and true
and He will wash you in His soul cleansing blood

For He understands the groans and cries which we utter
when we're so defeated we can not pray
Thus take them to Jesus by the right of His Cross
and cast your cries and cares upon Him today.

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” James 4:6-10
